Digital aerial installations and conversions for

Started in Autumn 2007, the existing TV service of BBC1, BBC2 ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 will be gradually closed down to make way for a digital only system. This will be rolled out over the whole country, with the London area being the last to be completed, no later than 2012.

If you currently live in a Freeview coverage area, then your existing aerial MAY work if the digital and analogue services are in the range covered by your aerial. However, some parts of the country, especially those served by the Ridge Hill transmitter, will require a new aerial system regardless. This applies to most of the Gloucestershire region that we cover. In some cases, doing this work may be just a case of replacing the aerial with one tested certified for digital compatibility. In most cases though, unless your house has been recently built, the cable will also need upgrading. Our engineer will advise you of this when on site. AJL Electronics work to the standards laid down by the Confederation of Aerial Industries (CAI) http://www.cai.org.uk and the broadcasters. All aerials and cables installed carry their own CAI certificate of conformity, we do not use "contractor" type aerials.

* The Mendip transmitter is due to close in about 10 months, with Ridge Hill closure in the following spring. *

The costs of aerial upgrades depend on a number of factors. The first of these is the signal strength at your location. You can get a good idea whether you are in coverage by entering your postcode at http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/ This can only be a guide as signal levels can and do vary over small distances.

Points that affect your digital service:

Location Check your postcode at : http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/
Age of house If more than about 2 years old Cable upgrade very likely
Position of aerial If aerial is in the loft or indoors currently Full external system required for reliability

The best way to ensure that your aerial system is compatible is to give us a ring on 01452 311031 Monday to Saturday. That way we can give a much more accurate guide tailored to your individual circumstances. To ensure the best performance we mainly install products from Televes, Triax and Wolseley.

A very loose estimate, assuming a completely new installation in a good signal area with a Televes 1121, would be in the region of £130 inc VAT.This will vary according to many factors including whether the system is to be chimney or wall mounted and cable length required etc. Additional TV points installed at the same time, typically cost £50 per point all inclusive of distribution amplifiers etc.

Please note that as we work to a fixed price list, a site survey is seldom required. In the event that a survey is booked, a charge of £60 will be levied, but refunded against any work carried out in the following 6 months.
